Family Group Conferencing Evaluation

Posted on October 16, 2020

Who are we?
We are a team of researchers at the Research Centre for Children
and Families, in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at the
University of Sydney. We conduct research with children, young
people and families that focuses on understanding their
experiences to inform policy and practice.

What is this evaluation about?

The Research Centre has been commissioned by the NSW
Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ) to evaluate the
Family Group Conferencing (FGC) program.
Family Group Conferences aim to give families a chance to create
a plan for their child or children where caseworkers have concerns
about the children’s safety. As the people who know the children
best, your views are really important and we want to learn
from your experiences.
We want to understand how the program works and if it makes a
difference to children and families. We are talking to
families, caseworkers and conference facilitators. We are
concentrating on three parts of NSW: Wollongong, South East
Sydney and Dubbo so we can get a sense of how the program
works in different communities.
