Workforce Survey:

Addressing problematic and harmful sexual behaviours in children and young people

Why have you been invited to participate in this survey?

The Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse reported that we need to improve prevention, early intervention and specialist responses to children and young people with problematic and harmful sexual behaviours. Improvements in this area will help to keep children safe.

These behaviours are seen with adolescents however can also arise even with very young children. They may present in early childcare, education, health, non-government support and community settings as well as in specialist services, out of home care or justice environments. The behaviours may also be discovered due to a disclosure by a child or young person who has been harmed.

NSW Health, on behalf of the NSW Government, is developing a NSW framework to guide and support the workforce to prevent, identify and respond to these behaviours. We will also be developing resources to help you in your role.

We would like to hear from a range of workers including those who work with children day to day and their managers, policy and project/program workers, training professionals of frontline workers and advocates. All of you are well placed to assist the government in understanding what information and resources would be helpful for the workforce.

Your participation in the survey will help identify service gaps, challenges and importantly, promising practices and initiatives already in place.
