This year we will continue to implement projects from the NSW Carers Strategy: Caring in NSW 2020-2030 and the Action Plan 2020-2022. Carers + Employers Program
Carers + Employers is a project of Carers NSW with the support of DCJ. It’s a national employer program which defines best practice standards for supporting staff with caring responsibilities. Workplaces that meet the Carers + Employers standards can be recognised as an Accredited Carer Employer. Accreditation is offered at three levels: Level 1 Activate; Level 2 Commit; and Level 3 Excel.
Currently eight employers including DCJ have been accredited at Level 1 Activate.
Carers NSW invites employers to apply for accreditation to will receive access to resources, including a new e-learning module for managers to support their staff who are carers.

FREE decision-making and capacity e-learning course
DCJ has developed an interactive e-learning tool to promote greater understanding of a person’s right to make their own decisions.
The Decision-making and capacity e-learning course covers topics like legal and mental capacity, NSW law, and the factors that impact on decision-making.
The course is suitable for carers, friends and family of people with decision-making disability.
It is free, interactive, self-paced and uses engaging case studies to promote understanding. It takes approximately 30 minutes to complete.
NSW Carers Factsheet – Infographic
In 2020, DCJ updated our Carer Facts Infographic poster using the latest release of data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) in the 2018 Survey of Disability, Ageing and Carers (SDAC).
This infographic is available for printing and displaying around offices to help people understand and recognise the important role carers play in our community.
You can download a copy of the Factsheet here
Disaster preparedness survey of carers
Are you living in Australia and caring for someone with disability or chronic health conditions on a regular, unpaid, informal basis?
The University of Sydney is conducting a survey to learn how prepared carers are for natural disasters. You can complete the survey online before 31 March here
This project will support carers to prepare for, respond to and recover from a disaster such as pandemic, bushfire, flood etc.
If you prefer a telephone survey, please email your name and contact number to Jade Chang at email@example.com
